Châteaux forts Alsace

Castles of Alsace

Alsace is one of Europe's regions with the most fortified castles. Now mostly in ruins, their silhouettes mark the Alsatian landscape all along the Vosges mountains.
These are the perfect places to take a family or romantic stroll and immerse yourself in the mysterious world of the Middle Ages.

Our favourite fortified castles less than an hour from the 3-star Origami lifestyle hotel:

In the forest, there are some great walks to recharge your batteries:

  • Château du Haut Barr in Saverne
  • Château de Wangenbourg in Wangenbourg-Engenthal
  • Falkenstein Castle in Philippsbourg
  • Château du Fleckenstein in Lembach

On the wine route, combine hiking, history and cellar visits:

  • Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg in Orschwiller
  • Château de l'Ortenbourg in Scherwiller
  • Château du Bernstein in Dambach la Ville
  • Château du Haut-Andlau et du Spesbourg in Andlau

You're sure to enjoy a breathtaking view over the Alsace plain.

Hiking trail idea: For our hiking friends, there's a 450 km-long Chemin des Château forts in Alsace. This 26-stage trail passes through 80 châteaux. It was launched in 2014 by the Châteaux Forts d'Alsace association, in partnership with the Club Vosgien federation.
