At the heart of the city, the 30-metre-high Christmas tree is the unmissable symbol of Strasbourg as Christmas Capital, bringing back the traditions of yesteryear.

Did you know that? In the 16th century, Christmas trees were traditionally decorated with red apples. Considered to be the first decorations to be hung on the tree, they were later replaced by glass Christmas baubles. The story goes that it was in 1858, following a severe drought that deprived eastern France of the fruit, that a glassmaker in Moselle came up with the idea of making glass baubles.

The Origami lifestyle hotel is the ideal place to visit the Christmas market, just a few minutes from the city centre.
