The Alsace Wine Route

The Alsace Wine Route: 170 km of itinerary, 70 villages crossed. Alsace's vineyards stretch from Thann (Haut-Rhin) to Cleebourg (Bas-Rhin).

Take your time, breathe, enjoy and recharge your batteries... Your eyes won't know where to look, so diverse are the landscapes. You'll have a wide choice of walks and hikes between vineyards, mountains, plains, forests and typical villages.

Walking, cycling, electric bikes, gyropods - there's no reason why you can't find the right shoes or bike for you!

Whatever the season, the wine route is a great way to discover Alsace's treasures:

  • Its gastronomy
  • Its art of living
  • Sublime medieval towns
  • Its magnificent landscapes

For a unique experience, we recommend a tasting at the cellar to meet a winemaker. These people are passionate about their craft and very friendly, so don't hesitate to pay them a visit. There's something for everyone in Alsace, whatever your preferences and values, you're sure to find a good address.

Our ideas for villages to visit outside Strasbourg :

  • Let yourself be charmed by our favourite villages: Andlau & Mittelbergheim (30 minutes from Strasbourg) and Obernai (20 minutes from Strasbourg).
  • Visit one of France's 3 favourite villages: Hunspach (north of Strasbourg) and Eguisheim and Kaysersberg (south of Strasbourg).

DID YOU KNOW? The pretty colours of our houses brighten up our villages today, but in the Middle Ages, these colours were used to identify the different trades, as few people knew how to read. The legend associates blue with woodworkers, red with ironworkers, green with leatherworkers, beige with stoneworkers and yellow with bakers.
